The delivery of content offers significant added value compared to traditional methods, such as a PDF download portal for user manuals:
- Information is delivered at the topic level, reducing a multi-step search (e.g., first finding the right PDF and then the correct section within it) to a single step.
- Intelligent search mechanisms ensure the shortest path to the desired information.
- Content is optimized for delivery on all devices: from PCs to tablets and smartphones.
- Access to product information can be efficiently and permanently ensured via a QR code on the product.
Search in JAMES – quickly and accurately
With JAMES, you’ll find information in seconds – fast, precise, and intelligent. After just a few characters, the smart search suggests relevant terms. Thanks to the combination of full-text search and faceted classification, you can quickly narrow results down to what really matters.
As you type, JAMES automatically detects relevant words, values, or product numbers and dynamically adjusts the filter structures. Active search criteria are clearly displayed as tags and can be removed with a single click.
Faceted Search
The hierarchical faceted structure displays only results that actually contain matches – including the number of hits. With every selection, the structure updates instantly, refining your results in real time.
Use of Standardized Taxonomies
CDS supports faceted searches in taxonomies defined within SMC or in external RDFS ontologies (e.g., iiRDS). This allows you to make the most of your knowledge models – consistent, standardized, and efficient.

JAMES effortlessly processes a wide variety of file types and content formats – from structured XML data to rich multimedia assets.
Books & Modules from SMC
The Smart Media Creator (SMC) is the perfect content partner for JAMES. Based on XML, content can be flexibly processed and automatically delivered.
Images and Videos
Whether vector or raster graphics, MP4 or MOV – JAMES automatically converts media into the optimal output format. This ensures that images and videos are perfectly displayed on every device – both in the portal and in the app.
Files such as PDF or Word
JAMES supports almost all common file formats. PDFs are displayed directly in the browser, while Office files or other formats open smoothly in their respective viewers – even firmware or specialized files can be easily delivered.
SMC Product Objects
JAMES seamlessly integrates product data from the SMC’s PDM module. Thanks to intelligent templating mechanisms, even large data volumes from ERP systems such as SAP can be efficiently processed and published.

Every content language managed by SMC can also be used for display in CDS and can be switched directly on the object.
The user interface language can be changed by the user. Currently available interface languages are:
