JAMES – the Smart Content Delivery System for Intelligent Information

The main requirements for searching are speed and accuracy. With JAMES, you get both. Behind the search mask, a very fast index awaits your input. Often, you don’t even need to type the entire search term, as JAMES suggests the appropriate terms after just a few characters. By combining full-text search with faceted classification, you can narrow down results to the relevant ones in no time.

Entering a search term simultaneously triggers multiple options: Automatic suggestions for words found in the content Automatic suggestions for specific attribute values (e.g., product numbers) Filtering of the faceted search structure While typing in the search field, JAMES already suggests the complete search term after just a few characters – both from full-text search and search classes. Alternatively or additionally, faceted search is possible. Facets can include: Names of search classes Defined object attribute values Numeric ranges (from – to) Date ranges (from – to) Active search criteria are displayed in a clear tag view, which can also be individually removed from the search.

Faceted Search

A hierarchically structured classification can be used as a faceted structure. This means that only entries containing search results are displayed. The number of expected results is also shown. Selecting an entry dynamically updates the entire search structure to reflect the remaining results. Search results can be further refined by class-specific attributes. These search criteria are displayed as children of the corresponding search classes in the search structure.

Use of Standardized Taxonomies

CDS enables faceted searches in the taxonomies represented in the CDS. This allows taxonomies used in SMC or external taxonomies defined in RDFS (1.1) to be used in CDS. An example of an ontology defined through RDFS is iiRDS.

JAMES handles a wide variety of file types and content formats:

Books & Modules from SMC: SMC is the ideal content provider for JAMES. The fundamental data type for storing modules and books in SMC is XML. This makes automatic processing more versatile.

Images and videos in various formats: Images and videos can also be managed directly in CDS and delivered via the portal and app. This is particularly simple and convenient: JAMES automatically converts the media in the background to the optimal output format. You can process vector or raster graphics of all common formats and even transcode and recalculate videos.

Any file objects such as PDF, Word, or others: The file object type can accommodate virtually any object type (e.g., PDF or Word files). PDFs are displayed in the portal via the browser and in the app using the respective OS viewers. Even file types that JAMES cannot display or interpret can be delivered, such as your latest firmware downloads for your products.

SMC Product Objects: A content format that has recently gained popularity is product data from the SMC PDM module (Product Data Management). Information in product objects can be exported from SMC using templating mechanisms based on catalog objects. This allows even large amounts of product information to be processed, such as data delivered from an ERP system like SAP or similar.

JAMES takes care of the processing in the background to provide the media in the best possible format.

Every content language managed by SMC can also be used for display in CDS and can be switched directly on the object.

The user interface language can be changed by the user. Currently available interface languages are:
